Miyavi and the Boys have produced yet another PV for their blues meets hip-hop effort. Even if it isn’t your cup of tea, you have to check it out for novelty’s sake alone. More importantly, I think Miyavi’s recent artistic direction is just another sign of the maturation of the Japanese visual rock scene.

Many may complain about how westernized many japanese rock artists are becoming, but in the end I feel that it’s a “necessary evil” in an evolution that will continue to bring about a greater variety and depth to the j visual scene.

As for the videos, I think they pretty accurately capture the spirit that I witnessed at the JRock Revolution here in Los Angeles a few months ago. I may not be a huge fan of Miyavi’s music, but I am a huge fan of him as an individual. I honestly feel that he, more so than most rock artists of his generation, understands the “true” essence of rock music (mostly likely due to his Blues background).

In his own way, I think Miyavi is truly doing something revolutionary to the Visual Kei scene, ushering in a sort of Democracy of Existence that many fans have seemed to have gravitated towards.

Whereas most Japanese rock stars have taken the route of inflating their “godlike” stature in front of their peers, Miyavi’s main priority has always been about creating an accessible atmosphere where he (and all those who wish to join in) can take part in creating a fun and engaging experience, regardless of one’s color, nationality, sex or language.

Rock on Miyavi . . . ROCK ON!
